The salad was already made, so the bacon couldn't be removed, and the wine was sh*t. It took 30 minutes for a potion of chips to show up, even after I checked on it twice. The place was completely understaffed, and the manager was an insanely rude, sweaty mess. Diabolical service. Avoid this embarrassment of a restaurant.

The location is ideal, the staff are friendly, and breakfast was presented really well. In summer, though, the rooms need proper air conditioning.

The location is lovely and the restaurant food was fine. That's the positive part of my stay. The room itself was tiny, really just somewhere to sleep, and had a strange smell that might have been coming from the air conditioning. The bathroom lights didn't work, and there was no warm water at all in the shower in the morning. Breakfast had to be ordered in advance, but nobody had told me that. When I came down in the morning, a stressed and annoyed employee said he had to open up the whole place himself and made it seem ridiculous that I had asked about breakfast. I had to eat elsewhere. I often come to Alkmaar for work, but next time I'll stay somewhere else.

The food is always very, very good. It all seems homemade, and the fish is cooked perfectly. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating, and will do what they can with special requests. It's a lovely, cosy spot right by the canal in central Alkmaar, close to the church. The atmosphere is relaxed, even if you're only stopping for drinks, and they stay open late. Dinner is served until around 9pm. If I had to suggest one place to go in Alkmaar, this would be it.
