We couldn’t get any rest after work because the kitchen extractor fan downstairs was so loud it made the room doors shake. We’d booked two single rooms for two days for a typical company work trip, and were surprised by an extra “holiday tax” of about 11 euro on top of the 360 euro room cost. Breakfast starts at 8 a.m., but since we had to get to work earlier, they prepared very poor lunch packs for us. I don’t recommend it. Never again.

The accommodation feels past its best. It’s rated three stars and badly needs refurbishment. The restaurant was fine, but the side dishes were disappointing and seemed to have no inspiration behind them. It felt as if they’d shopped at lidl, though they did manage to make something comfortable to eat.

A simple but effective menu, with Dutch staples like kroket and savory or sweet pancakes. This is a good stop after a walk through the typically Dutch surroundings of the old farming villages of Almen.

We stopped on the terras for coffee and a piece of cake, and really enjoyed both the setting and the service. The staff were very friendly. They also brought us a glass of a strong liquor called “Almen bitter” with our order, and it was pretty good. I’d come back, maybe even stay overnight next time.

We waited 45 minutes for food that never arrived. Mistakes happen, but they wouldn’t take responsibility and didn’t seem willing to hear that anything had gone wrong. Coming here feels like a hit or miss. Go at your own risk.
