Hotel Café Restaurant Abina

The cafe has such a cute feel, kind of like an Irish pub, and we really liked the atmosphere. Our burgers were great, the fries came out hot and crispy, and the service was exceptional. We’ll be back. I can’t comment on the rooms.

The satay was a hit, and the Java-style chopped pork came as three nicely grilled sticks, not overcooked, with a sauce good enough to make the rest of us jealous. We’d gone in for a quick bite before a concert without expecting much, but the food surprised us. The burgers were generously sized, with moist patties, good sauce, and fresh salad on the side. The Caesar had a seriously good chicken fillet, too. The menu may look familiar, with burgers, salad, and dates, but they made those dishes stand out. Service was quick, kind, and attentive.

The neighborhood was nice, but the hotel itself left us feeling unsafe and uncomfortable. Men went into the women’s bathroom, and I was so scared someone might follow me that I carried a little pocket knife around the hotel. There was poop around the bathroom, and mold in the showers, of which there were only two for the whole hotel. At breakfast, we found a fly in the milk. The music was insanely loud, people banged on the walls, and it kept us up most of the night. The bed wasn’t fully clean, and I had a bunch of bites, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there were bed bugs. When staff asked where we were from, they laughed at us. And the key card didn’t work, so how was I supposed to get into my room? It took us more than half an hour to get from the hotel to Amsterdam, and we had to pay extra for the bus. If you’re on a budget, this might be okay, but I wouldn’t make it my first choice.

Music blared until 2 a.m. and was shaking our room. The beds and bathrooms were really dirty and gross, too. It may look close to the airport, but getting there takes a long time and several buses. I can’t understand how this is a four-star hotel. Worst place I’ve ever stayed.
