The Amstel Residence

The phone call ended when I hung up in shock. After I explained that a booking mistake could cause serious problems at work, the person on the phone told me, “Well, then maybe you should quit your job.” I don’t know his name, but I sincerely hope he wasn’t the manager. It was so disrespectful that I ended the call immediately. I’d booked a business stay through Booking for my boss, but under heavy work pressure and short on time, I chose the wrong dates and accidentally selected a non-refundable rate. I realized soon after and contacted the hotel right away, asking sincerely whether they might consider an exception or some goodwill solution. The first person I spoke to, Sorina, was kind and understanding and said she’d check with management. The next day I was told cancellation wasn’t possible. I called again politely to ask if they could make an exception. I know the mistake was mine, but I hoped for some flexibility and understanding. Policies are policies, and people make mistakes, but hospitality still calls for professionalism, respect, and basic decency. This experience showed none of those. I strongly recommend reconsidering how guests and even potential guests are treated. It was deeply upsetting as well as disappointing.

Mohammed took care of our luggage and needs during the stay, and gave us useful tips about the city. He was professional and kind. Hanna and Mohammed were both helpful and welcoming, and waited so they could greet us in person. The location is wonderful, and the old building has been renovated in a contemporary style. If you book the top floor with a terrace, be mindful of your luggage size because the stairs are very steep and narrow.

We stayed on the first floor, and the room was quiet even with its window facing the street. It had been newly renovated and came with a king-sized bed and a bunk bed. The apartment was very clean, and the service was amazing too. I highly recommend it.

There was a little outside noise at night, but that comes with being right in the heart of the city. The location was great, and there was enough room for four adults.
