Hotel Nova

The hotel was very quiet even though it was fully occupied, and the rooms and bathrooms were clean and spacious. There’s free coffee and water in the lobby, and the location is excellent. I’ll definitely stay again on my next Amsterdam visit.

The best parts were the central location, friendly staff, and a clean, modernised room with plenty of space. I stayed at the Nova Hotel in Amsterdam Central for two nights, arriving on Monday, King’s Day. The city was buzzing with people, drinks, and music, which was exciting but chaotic. The hotel had locked its doors and used an intercom for entry, a security measure I appreciated. It’s just off a main road near a canal and around the corner from Soho House, which was convenient for my meetings. Check-in was quick, and my room had a comfortable double bed, fridge, hanging space, safe, desk, large TV, and a couple of chairs. There were front and side windows. The front side was noisy, so I kept the side window open instead. The room and bathroom were clean. The shower was decent, but the water temperature kept shifting between hot and cold, possibly because other guests were using water at the same time. The hairdryer was basic. I couldn’t get streaming to work from my phone or laptop, and although the WiFi looked strong, it was inconsistent enough that I had to use my mobile hotspot for work. An occasional rotten egg-like sewage smell seemed to come from the bathroom while I was in bed, which was unpleasant. The lobby has complimentary coffee, and I believe tea as well, plus a water refill station and a vending machine for bottles. Breakfast is available, though I didn’t try it. I liked the hotel and would consider coming back for a short stay, but the intermittent smell and unreliable hot water need attention.

The location was excellent for nightlife and shopping, with public transport nearby and easy access to the main train stations. The room and bedding were very good, and three of us shared the room comfortably. It was a pleasant stay at Nova hotel, and I’d definitely return. Breakfast was good, with a small but decent selection, and made the stay easier, so I recommend taking it. There’s free coffee, water, and tea in the lobby all day. Ask for a room at the back if you can, since the tram on the street can be noisy in the evening and early morning. I always wonder why the cleaning staff leave some of their hair in the bathroom 😏.

The breakfast was lovely, with a small selection but plenty of choice, and the rooms were clean and handy as a base. Reception staff were very helpful. The location worked well for us. It took about 35 minutes to get there from the airport with a walk and train ride. High street shops were five minutes away, and the canals were a 15-minute walk, with lovely bars, cafes, and restaurants.
