Amsterdam Centre Harbour Apartments

I booked three nights through Airbnb, then my flight changed and I asked to move the dates. They wouldn’t allow it. I offered to pay extra and stay two nights instead of three, but they refused that too. Their response throughout felt completely negative.

Such a lovely day in a lovely city. Amsterdam felt so relaxed and laid back to me, and it’s probably the cleanest city I’ve had the pleasure of visiting.

The apartment was spacious, reasonably clean when we arrived, and had useful appliances, including a dishwasher. For the price, it was good value. The fridge didn’t work properly, though, and the sofa bed area had no inside door separating it from the street entrance. People often smoked or drank outside the door until the early hours, so plenty of noise and light came in.

We asked management for a refund after raising the problems, but got insulting excuses and an offer so low it barely addressed the discomfort and hassle. The two Amsterdam apartments we stayed in were both filthy, with heavy dust and bugs, and the windows wouldn’t open to let in air. The doors also wouldn’t lock, which left us feeling unsafe. Bathrooms were in even worse shape: weak showers, visible mold, and in one apartment a completely broken shower tap. It felt like nobody had made an effort to maintain the properties or provide a decent stay. This was one of the worst rental experiences I’ve had, and management’s lack of accountability made it worse. I’d tell anyone considering these apartments to look elsewhere and save themselves the trouble.
