De Jonker Urban Studio's & Suites

When we got back for our bags at 17:00, our entry codes had expired. We called the helpline several times with no answer, and the cupboard where our luggage had been stored only opened with a staff keycard. Two guests helped us reach a lovely woman on a separate number, who apologized deeply and sorted things out. Steven came from home after work to unlock the cupboard. He was polite, helpful, apologized too, and told us to stay in touch if we needed anything. Big shout out to Steven. We stayed from Saturday to Tuesday, and the check-in and check-out times felt very harsh, especially since there weren't really places to leave suitcases before or after. We arrived at 13:00 on Saturday and called the helpline because we couldn't find the entry email. The man who opened the door was rude and unhelpful when we asked to leave our bags without knowing our room number. We eventually found the email, but I think that information should be explained beforehand. The location was good, near a cafe and tram stops, and not far from the center. Our room was clean overall, spacious and great for the two of us, with a nice bathroom and very comfortable beds. Some of the downstairs walls looked dirty and the decor was a little old.

The neighborhood was quiet and pleasant, with parks and restaurants, and the location was convenient, right on the tram line to the train station. The QR codes worked perfectly for us. Our room had everything needed for cooking, but the cleaning could have been more thorough in places. There were marks on the shower walls, stains on some sheets and towels, no mattress protector, a sewer smell in the bathroom, and the shower soap dispensers were nearly empty. The room faced the street, so passersby were easy to hear. Bring earplugs. It was also very cold, 17°C, when we arrived on the first day. We turned on the air conditioning to warm the room, but after an hour the temperature hadn't changed. Reception told me it had been broken for two days. Thankfully, the woman I spoke with responded quickly and moved us to another room within half an hour. Thank you to her. In winter, guests shouldn't be put in rooms before the air conditioning is fixed. The fire alarm went off on three of our four mornings. The first time, someone turned it off within 15 minutes after I called reception. The other two times it was earlier, around 9 am, and nobody answered. It kept sounding for over an hour. I hope reception would respond faster if there were ever a fire before 10 am.

The apartment was clean, well equipped, and had thoughtful touches like coffee supplies and basic toiletries. Its location was excellent, in a safe, quiet area within easy walking distance of key sights and transport. Shops and restaurants around the corner were handy for groceries, a quick bite, or morning coffee. There were two disappointments. Although the bathroom was clean, it had an unpleasant smell that never really went away. Also, we'd asked specifically for a king-size bed and had that confirmed beforehand, but got two single beds pushed together instead, which wasn't as comfortable for a couple. The quiet, safe setting, great location, and well-appointed apartment still made for a really good stay.

The location was the one thing we still appreciated. This was our fifth stay at De Jonker, and we used to really enjoy it, so I hope management pays closer attention to the details for future guests. I noted in the booking that we'd stayed four times before and asked for an upper-floor room. Instead, we got a smaller ground-floor room described as a suite, but it didn't have the separate sitting area we'd had before. Only one window opened a little, the kitchenette was poorly equipped, and the bathroom shampoo was empty. The check-in and check-out times, 4:00 PM and 10:30 AM, are really harsh. Unfortunately, this visit wasn't as good as the earlier ones.
