Décor Canal House

Staying here made us feel more like locals than tourists in a big hotel, thanks to the place's small, tucked-away feel. Our room was lovely, right on the canals. The owner was kind and helpful, with lots of suggestions for places to visit and eat in Amsterdam. We enjoyed our stay and would come back!

The location is great, but this place is oversold. We booked four nights in the De Prins room, a tiny room on the second floor with no lift. As New Yorkers, we're used to walk-ups, but the stairs are narrow and each step is small, which was awkward for my fiancé's size 12 feet. The shower, sink, and toilet have no partition between them. The room was fairly clean but very bare, like a college dorm for someone lucky enough to have a room of their own. Check-in is very late, at 2pm, and nobody answers when you text to ask about checking in a bit earlier. It might suit college grads whose parents are paying and who want to party. For the money, I'd be better off at an Ibis or somewhere not right on the canal. Also, when we got back from dinner, the room had a strong stink, probably coming from the bathroom sewer. That's not okay.

It’s easy to get to Amsterdam’s popular sights on foot, yet the neighborhood itself is lovely and peaceful. The space was clean and comfortable, and Jonathan was so welcoming and generous with advice on getting the most out of the city.

Jonathan was lovely and really went out of his way to make sure we were looked after. The place was modern and clean, right in the center, with everything an easy walk away. I absolutely loved staying here and would highly recommend it.
