The little balcony was a nice extra, and the room itself was clean with fresh towels, which was good enough for a two-star hotel. The stairs up to the first floor were less welcome. I can’t imagine managing them even a little tipsy. It’s a decent enough place, within a reasonable distance of the city centre.

The breakfast buffet is a good deal at 9,50 euros, and the beds and really cushy pillows were comfortable. It’s a nice hotel in a great spot. Just be aware the stairs are very steep. I’d try to get a room on a lower floor.

The staff were friendly and the location was convenient, and the shower room was clean with plenty of hot water. But the shower drain barely worked, so I couldn’t run the water full blast. The rooms were tiny and shabby: Room 10 only had space for a double bed, and I had to walk sideways beside it. Its linen was stained. In Room 16, only one window had curtains, and there was a footprint on the inside. The carpets were worn, stained, and dirty, and the front steps looked grimy, which made a bad first impression. There was no coffee setup in the room, and the WiFi didn’t work on the top floor. The stairs are very steep, but that seems normal for Amsterdam. They were painting the stair railings, so maybe the hotel is getting cleaned up.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the hotel could work if you just need somewhere to sleep. It’s several minutes from the nearest metro station. Cleanliness wasn’t what we expected, and the shower drain was really poor: after each minute of showering, the water took several minutes to go down. For this standard of hotel, it also felt expensive.

The check-out staff member was very attentive, and the accommodation staff were friendly in general. I liked the price compared with nearby options, and my room was comfortable and clean. Having the toilet outside the room wasn’t much of a problem for me. The bad part was checking in. I got to the hotel after 3pm and waited at the desk when the receptionist asked me to. Three to five minutes later she came over and loudly told me, “YOU HAVE TO WAIT, TAKE A SIT!” That tone felt completely inappropriate for a guest, and it made my day worse. I wonder if a language issue played a part in the rudeness, though I’m not sure. Having to wait was the only other bad part, and luckily I didn’t have to deal with her again.
