Hotel & Wellness Zuiver

We came down with the flu on check-in day and had to reschedule our stay. The staff were incredibly kind and understanding about it, and we’re so grateful they were flexible. That’s what real hospitality feels like. We were honestly surprised, in the best way, by how much genuine care the hotel team showed us. Can’t wait to finally come!

The spa is still top-notch, and breakfast was delicious with a nice variety. My husband and I always enjoy visiting, and we haven’t found another spa that matches its quality. I just wish Zuiver would stick to what it does best instead of trying to be a hotel too. The hotel made us feel unwelcome, as though it was trying to get every last cent from guests. There were no bathrobes or slippers in the room. You had to rent a bathrobe, and slippers cost €12.50 a pair. Since people come to the hotel for the spa, I think those should be included. There wasn’t any lotion in the room either, though it was available to buy. There was also a €50 deposit per person, per night for possible damages, which didn’t help us feel welcome. If you stay here for a weekend, I’d keep it to one night and bring your own robe and slippers.

The saunas are the best we’ve experienced anywhere in the world, and the facilities are great. The massage and bodywork options aren’t as extensive, but the spa visit was amazing.

The wellness facilities are fairly limited compared with other places, though they’re good enough for an occasional visit, especially given the location. The restaurant seemed very overpriced, but was acceptable. Its staff weren’t especially service-oriented, though they were acceptable too. What put me off returning was an interaction at reception that spoiled a whole day of relaxation. When we got back to our lockers after the spa, several had notes saying their contents had been removed and could be collected at the desk. My boyfriend’s locker was among them. Mine was locked, but my bracelet wouldn’t open it. At first, the idea of someone taking things out felt unpleasant, but we assumed there must be a good reason. I told the woman at the desk, “My bracelet doesn’t open my locker.” She just asked, “What was in your locker?” She gave no explanation for asking and spoke in a rude, almost intimidating way, as if I were an idiot. When I told her, she handed over my things as if she were carrying laundry, with my underwear and clothes hanging out. Then she said, “You should be happy we took care of your stuff.” I felt like I was being treated like a drunk at a city-center nightclub cloakroom, not a guest at a hotel spa. There were so many easy ways to handle this more considerately. I don’t recommend the place. There are plenty of other spas with better service, a more welcoming atmosphere, and more facilities. They need staff who are better trained in the kind of service a hotel requires.
