We spent a lot of time walking to the busy central areas, over 24k steps a day, about 19 km, though all the walking was on flat ground. The hotel itself is right among the museums, near parks, and surrounded by some nice designer shops. It’s a classy hotel in a classy area. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Our room was tidy, with a smart TV, and the bed was really comfortable. The bath was a little small for me, but the shower was excellent. Breakfast was good, with homemade food, avocado and salmon for healthier options, lovely pastries, and proper ground coffee. Best of all, drinks and snacks were free.

We spent most of our time in the communal living and dining area because it was so cosy. The free food and drinks were a lovely touch, and the comfortable seats made it feel like relaxing at home. The whole hotel felt much more welcoming and homely than anywhere else I’ve stayed. The location worked really well. It’s close enough to reach the city centre easily, but away from the busiest part. There’s a tram stop nearby, and Vondelpark is right outside for a stroll. Our room was beautiful, with a big, comfy bed and a nice view of Amsterdam’s streets. The staff were lovely, and there always seemed to be someone around to help. Check-in was casual and easy, right in the kitchen on an iPad. We had a brilliant stay at Jan Luyken and would happily recommend it to anyone visiting Amsterdam.

We picked a small room and were comfortable there for our four-night stay, though I’d choose a larger one for a longer visit. The bed was large, and the lounge and dining room were comfortable places to sit and relax. Snacks and drinks were available for free at any time, including hot and cold drinks, beer, wine and spirits. The bathroom was very tight. A bath would be uncomfortable, but the shower was fine. The heating also seemed to switch itself off each day. Neither issue affected our enjoyment. The staff were always smiling, friendly and happy to help. The hotel is a lovely boutique place in the heart of the museum district, about five minutes from the Van Gogh, Moco and Rijks museums. We’d highly recommend Amsterdam as a place to visit.

We liked being able to walk around the fashion and design quarter, with its shops, restaurants and places to wander in the falling snow each night. The hotel also felt like a small, cosy boutique place. Our room was quiet, clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast and afternoon snacks felt like a real treat. We’ve just returned from a week at Jan Luyken Amsterdam, and it was a wonderful stay. The location suited our short visit perfectly, very close to the city’s three great art museums, the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedlijk, a modern and contemporary art museum. I’d recommend it to anyone.

The medium rooms were lovely, thoughtfully designed, and very comfortable. We all enjoyed the homely feel, and the hotel is in a fabulous location. The staff were warm and friendly, though how well they could meet guests’ needs varied. There probably aren’t enough of them. One evening we asked for more glasses and were told they had too much going on, so we couldn’t use the bar. One staff member really stood out, tall, with long blonde hair and glasses. We’ll come back, though a few small changes could make the guest experience better.
