NH Amsterdam Schiller

Hotel Schiller has a classic charm that suits Amsterdam, and our room was comfortable, clean, and beautifully kept. The staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and were so friendly and helpful. Right on Rembrandtplein, it’s hard to beat the location, with canals, restaurants, and the main sights only a short walk away. We’d gladly return and highly recommend it.

The central location was a real plus, with everything about a 15-minute walk away. We enjoyed the pleasant feel of the room, and housekeeping did an excellent job whenever we asked for cleaning. The staff were also very kind and available when we had questions. We were disappointed that the lobby didn’t have the free-flowing drinks we’d been told to expect. When we went to get tea or a snack for the room, a staff member first said no. He let us take them after we explained what reception had told us, but the exchange left a negative impression and we didn’t use the hotel’s services after that. Still, we liked the hotel overall.

The location was the one real plus. For a 4-star hotel, the place felt very odd, and at the very high price I didn’t feel I got what I should have. My room was so small it had only a single bed, with barely any usable desk space, and felt claustrophobic. The bathroom was extremely cramped too. I’m very average in size and could barely squeeze between the wall and sink. There was just one flimsy towel hook. At check-in they asked for my email and phone number so they could tell me when the room was ready. Instead, I got an email saying I’d been enrolled in their loyalty programme. To the hotel: calling this a “miscommunication” isn’t enough. Please follow GDPR, remove me from the programme, and delete my personal data. The bar was closed at 22:06. At breakfast, staff fussed over other guests, offering coffee and refills, but never offered me any. The area was noisy, and I could hear it even with the windows shut. The only other positive was a nice receptionist on my last day who really tried to resolve a problem. I wanted the same drink I’d previously received for free using a room-cleaning voucher. Two days earlier, I’d exchanged a voucher for a corked beer bottle to take with me without any issue. This time breakfast staff brought an uncorked bottle instead. I don’t know why the employee assumed I’d drink beer, even zero-alcohol, at breakfast. I’ve seen many of these problems mentioned in other comments.

Everything at the hotel was great and went beyond what I expected. Daniala gave me a warm, professional welcome, and Luca is truly a superhero.
