Nova Apartments

For budget accommodation in Amsterdam, it was comfortable and generally clean. Housekeeping emptied the bins and hoovered. When we arrived, though, the room was very cold and took a while to warm up while we worked out the heating. The TV kept glitching, probably because of a weak signal, but we could still use it. There was also a bad sewer smell from the shower drain, and I’m not sure why. The stairs are very steep, so I’d advise taking the elevator. I’m not sure I’d stay here again.

The staff were very responsive, and the location was good, close to major museums and trams but away from the city centre madness. The main problem was the electrical circuits kept tripping. Someone came to investigate but couldn’t fix it, so it remained a constant annoyance during our stay. Otherwise, a good experience.

The apartment was nice and the location was good, but the details let it down. There was rubbish from previous guests in the bathroom, and the dispenser was out of soap. There were no toothbrushes either. Late at night, we had to let other guests in because they couldn’t reach reception. Then the cleaning staff woke us despite the “Do Not Disturb” sign.

We stayed for three nights, and the apartment was quiet and clean. Its location was perfect, in a peaceful part of Amsterdam but still central for the museums and city centre, with tram links nearby. The room had good facilities, and the kitchen and induction hob were fine for cooking. One thing to watch: the lights over the table hang low, and I hit my head on one when getting up, breaking off a piece. I also wish there were a way to turn off the air vent, since one night the smell of weed occasionally came in from outside or somewhere in the building.
