A direct tram from Amsterdam Central gets you most of the way, then it's a 10-minute walk. There's a well-stocked supermarket about 5-7 minutes away on foot. The neighborhood is peaceful and has lots of young families in houses and apartments. The toilet and shower are downstairs, so the layout may not work well for elderly guests. Also, the big windows make the place feel like a lightbox, so lower the blinds if you don't like feeling exposed. I had a wonderful stay. The unit was comfortable, with a small kitchen, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a view to die for. Its spot right beside the lake was beautiful.

My partner and I came across this bridge house by chance. Arriving to find it in such an incredible spot on a working lock was an amazing surprise. A unique, great place to stay.
It took about 20 minutes by tram to reach the lively Amsterdam Centraal, and getting around was easy. There were good restaurants within walking distance too. As soon as we stepped inside, it felt like home. We had an awesome stay and no regrets. Thanks so much, Sweets hotel!
Most restaurants around here have vegetarian or vegan choices. Our favorites nearby were Cana's Imam Bayildi and Nap's salad. There are also restaurants, a beach, a grocery store, and the tram within walking distance. The bay on Ijburg makes for spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Tram 26 runs about every 10 minutes and takes 15 minutes to reach central station. We weren't sure where to buy tickets at first, but you can get them on the tram or at central station. gvb.nl has more bus, tram, and train information. There's little car traffic, though an occasional motorcycle comes by, and it's generally quiet. The oldest buildings in this area seem to be from the 50's or 60's, so it feels much newer than downtown Amsterdam's tall, narrow canal houses. Watch out for bikes and stay out of their lanes, just as you would downtown.
The design and interior were carefully and flawlessly developed by the Amsterdam architecture firm Space&Matter. I'd say don't miss this one. I've been lucky enough to stay in four of the SWEETS places, and I've grown to appreciate all the little design choices that make such small houses livable. This one feels more like a palace, almost too big for one person, with a sprawling organic bed and lots of open space. It's a striking modernist building, purpose-built and then de-commissioned right away when technology made it redundant. That history is what lets us stay somewhere like this at all. It sits on the edge of a man-made island, facing two more islands under construction. It feels like a new world. If every SWEET is a jewel box with a view, this is the crown jewel. A mini-mansion by the sea, with a beach across the way and windsurfers bobbing past the wall of glass.
