Bastion Hotel Apeldoorn Het Loo

I've never had a worse hotel experience. The staff were exceptionally rude, and it took 45 minutes and three reminders to get a beer. The rooms were dirty and noisy. The empty-feeling halls were almost haunted. I don't recommend staying here. Stay somewhere dlse.

We've come here every year to visit family, but this time was disappointing. The breakfast was okay, and the ladies serving it were friendly, though the omelet, sausages, and bacon were cold. Our room was freezing at 15C, with cold air coming in from outside, so I switched off the AC. I asked reception if we could move, but the hotel was full. Two guys at the desk joked about it and tried to help, and I couldn't understand why the AC was on in winter. Later we turned on the heater and went out. It had reached 16C when we got back, but the room was still cold enough that we slept in sweaters. The bathroom was freezing too, and its icy floor was unpleasant to walk on. The door didn't close by itself, so we had to check it twice before leaving. The whole experience was unpleasant, uncomfortable, and unforgettable.

My paid booking for September 13, 2025 wasn't honored. After traveling specifically for the confirmed reservation, I arrived that evening and was told the room had been given to someone else. No call, email, or warning came beforehand. The staff offered neither a solution nor another place to stay, leaving me stranded that evening. Paying for a room in advance should mean it is there when you arrive. This was a complete failure to honor a paid contract, and it ruined my weekend plans. I had nowhere to sleep and missed the activities I'd planned for the next day.

The only small hassle was having to pass through several doors to reach our room, since there were so many rooms on the ground floor. Honestly, that's nitpicking. The location is handy for the Palace and Julianatoren amusement park, so it's a good spot for a short vacation. The room was spacious, very clean, and quite good. Reception staff were polite, and check-in and check-out went smoothly. We had a wonderful stay at Bastion Hotel.
