Hotel Restaurant Landgoed Ekenstein

The setting is beautiful and scenic, just outside Appingedam, with a huge forest behind the hotel where you can go for a walk and enjoy the view. This place dates back to 1671, so it has quite a history. I stayed just one night. The room was clean and spacious, and the bathroom was much better than I expected. I struggled a bit with the bed, though that may just have been me getting used to sleeping somewhere other than my own bed. The staff were very friendly. Breakfast was filling and lunch was very good. I was also surprised to see how highly it was recommended by Michelin stars.

The grounds and wildlife are fantastic, and the old-fashioned service is really good. I’ll stay again. My room felt plain, and I wasn't keen on the shower. Breakfast had limited choice, but everything served was delicious.

This was my third stay, and I keep recommending the place. From the minute I arrived, the staff treated me like royalty. They were wonderful, always smiling, and the service was impeccable. They’re also ready to go the extra mile for guests.

A lovely estate with plenty of options for good food and walks in nature. The neighborhood is quiet, partly because you’re unlikely to end up there by accident.
