Design Hotel Modez

Free parking was a definite plus, and the beds and shower were good. The studio was cozily decorated and made a nice first impression, and housekeeping was available on request, which could be handy for a longer stay. We stayed at Hotel Modez, Split Studio 13A, and would give it 3 out of 5. The biggest worry was being unable to reach anyone after 6:00 PM. There was no staff on site, and the emergency number was the same as the regular phone number. Even on New Year's Day this felt strange and uncomfortable. What if something serious happened or we lost the key? We also couldn't adjust the temperature. It was cold in the morning and afternoon, the studio heaters were cold, and the hallway control needed a code. The kitchen was very minimally equipped, with no oven or microwave, and the frying pan was in such poor shape that we didn't feel safe using it. We travelled with our cat, but the studio didn't feel very pet-friendly. The staircase was steep and open, and the kitchen was partly open at the bottom, so our cat got behind it. Exposed wires were back there, and it was hard to get him out, which could have been dangerous. We skipped housekeeping, but the hall and stairs were still very dirty and should be maintained regardless. There was also conditioner in the shampoo dispenser, and the studio's design clock didn't work. They may seem minor, but these things should be in order. We paid nearly €400 for two nights and didn't think it was good value. The stay was decent, but far from outstanding, and there's clearly room for improvement. The lack of evening contact was the most concerning part, and applies on regular nights too. We're curious to see how, or whether, the hotel will respond to this review.

The crew were super nice, especially the girl from Portugal, and the other receptionists deserve a cheers too. I lost my key card so many times I can't even remember, but they stayed patient and kind. Too bad we couldn't play chess. I also recommend trying the menu at 'Goed.' Proeven, especially if you don't want to hear comments about your style at Café Caspar. I liked Comfort Room 31 from the start. It was super cOzzy, with a noir atmosphere and loads of character. There was a sewing table with a box of sewing accessories, and another smaller table holding an old-school Nesspresso machine. The coffee capsules sat in a retro holder that matched the room. Checker patterns mixed with violet appeared on the cape on the bed and its pillows. The mannequin pushed past the orthodox approach in a peculiar, subtle way, and I found it charming. There was a chain with scissors hanging on it and a small sign of a rod below, what the hell, blvck humor. Behind one of the bed lamps was a DVD of "Small Town Killers". Too bad there wasn't a player in the room, but I got the suggestion. Irvinx did a fantastic job here.

We got a really warm welcome, and all the staff were excellent. Breakfast was delicious, served in a room with vibrant decor. The bedroom design was very unusual, but we loved it. So much thought had gone into it.

The rooms are crazy cool, and the furniture and amenities are much better quality than in many other hotels I've stayed at. It's a super nice, hip place close to Arnhem Velperpoort, and I'd recommend it for either a short or a long stay. A pity I was really only there to sleep, so I didn't get to enjoy it as long as I would've liked.
