Nobel - Suites

The main drawback for families with children is that the sleeping areas don’t block out enough of the living room noise. Otherwise, these modern apartments are beautiful and have every convenience. They’re in a historic building on a leafy main road in Ballum. Well worth a visit, especially if you appreciate the quality and indulgence Nobel puts first.

The staff were so friendly, and the food tasted good too.

We stayed four nights with four people. The styling is nice, the location is great, and the sofa was incredibly comfortable. There’s outdoor dining space and a lounge sofa, too, although a daycare center behind it means children are playing there during the week. At check-in, our apartment wasn’t ready at 4:00 PM, so we waited on the terrace with a free drink. Inside, it was dirty: chips were left on the outdoor table, both tables had coffee stains, there were crumbs on the dining table, bar snacks under the chairs by the heater, and dust everywhere. When we mentioned it, we were first told housekeeping had already left. They then handled it very nicely, cleaned the apartment, and gave us bubbly and chocolates, but it still wasn’t spotless. A lot of things just weren’t quite right. The kitchen tap was limescaled and didn’t work properly, the kettle was limescaled, and the wine glasses in the cupboard weren’t clean. There were only two long drink glasses and two tea glasses for a cottage meant for six. Kitchen utensils were very limited, something I also saw in reviews from two years ago, but it still hasn’t been addressed. There’s plenty of coffee and tea, but no salt or pepper, for example. The soap dispensers didn’t work, the bathroom sinks are tiny and get everything wet, and the carpet and rug were dirty. The kitchen and finish felt mediocre overall. The listing photos on the website and Booking show the partition wall open, so the apartment looks larger and like one spacious unit. In reality, it’s two narrow units divided by a sliding wall, and that wall is very noisy. We could easily hear our neighbors, a group of six men. With so much open space, people can’t go to bed at different times without disturbing each other. There’s a curtain around the bed, but it’s see-through, so privacy is limited. The downstairs hall is cramped with the sliding door closed, and the different ceiling heights also make it less suitable for children. The living room isn’t big enough for six, despite the very comfortable sofa. The back door was broken and couldn’t be opened from outside. We stayed four nights without an interim clean or towel change. At €500 per night, we didn’t think the quality justified the price. Not recommended if you expect a spotless apartment with high standards.
