Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant Marijke

The mood in the hotel is nice, the reception staff are friendly, and breakfast is good. It's close to Alkmaar and easy to get around on foot, though finding a parking spot was difficult. The room, unfortunately, was very uncomfortable, old and dirty. There were big cobwebs with dead spiders, the floor scratched when you stepped on it, and noise from everyone could be heard inside. The bathroom was very old too. It needs renovation and better insulation.

We stayed for three days and liked the room's size and the location. It felt more like a village hotel than a city one, I guess. There weren't any tea or coffee facilities in the room, and breakfast had no cereal. The hotel restaurant was dimly lit, as were other restaurants we tried in Bergen.

We paid and checked in when we arrived, although our room wasn't ready, trusting the 4-star rating and central location. When we returned at 15:00, we were told the main hotel had no rooms left and were sent to a tiny room across the road. It was awful. We went back to reception to check out and ask for our €200 back, but they said that wasn't possible. I honestly can't remember the last time I got service this terrible. It felt deceitful.

Right in the village center, so the location was good. But the room was far too small for two, and it had no mini-fridge, cups, or tea and coffee supplies like other hotels do. The bed was large, with two separate mattresses, but mine kept sliding and made the night miserable. The narrow wooden stairs were uncomfortable too. Two stars from me.
