B & B Kostelijk

We left the next morning without eating a thing. Everything we saw was sticky or stained, and the breakfast was already sitting in the fridge when we arrived, even though the man said he'd only just got home from work. We stayed at Kostelijk on September 2nd, as the man calls it. As soon as we came in, he told us his late wife had run the B&B. He is trying to continue her work, but sadly seems out of touch. He wasn't personable and seemed focused on himself. We strongly recommend avoiding a booking at "Kotselijk."

It's close to Enschede and Hegelo, and the host was friendly and helpful, bringing us tasty food each day. The bathroom was clean and the shower was good. Still, the place is run-down and only suited to people with low expectations. Some areas were dirty, old fruit had been left around, and the reception was a disaster. The accommodation is quite dated, too. At night the bed hummed, and the wardrobe was packed with things. It's actually a nice place to stay, but it needs work.

At first the service was good. We cut our stay short because the rooms didn't meet our expectations, and then the owner held onto our luggage. He offered a €100 refund. The disagreement took police intervention to resolve, and while they were there he threatened legal action.

We just needed to get out of there, so we turned down the €97 refund. The whole experience was awful. Even one star feels like too much.
