Strandhotel Noordzee

I’ve stayed at this great hotel a few times, but apparently I won’t be able to anymore. I tried to book three nights from Thursday to Sunday, but the new rule requires Sunday night to be included. First they said the minimum was three nights, and we were booking three, but then they said weekends have to include Sunday night. Ridiculous. We’ll have to go somewhere else.

The hotel is great, the rooms are spacious, and the breakfast buffet is nice. The location is perfect for the beach and dunes. But three of the first-floor balcony windows have lights outside to illuminate the building, and there’s no way to switch them off. They attract hordes of mosquitoes, so you can’t sit on the balcony or open the window in the evening without letting them in. You also have to keep the blinds closed, otherwise the room stays bright until the lights go off at 1am. When we raised it, reception said the lights couldn’t be wired differently, and that a switch in each room technically wasn’t possible, so we’d just have to live with it. Ask for a second-floor room, or a first-floor one without those lamps.

We had a thali and it was great. The portions are large, so keep that in mind. I’m Indian and would definitely recommend this place. The cook has Tibetan roots and does justice to the food.

The hotel has a lovely Dutch beach style, fantastic views, and a great restaurant. My partner and I stayed for three nights in July 2021. The Corona rules had been lifted, so the restaurant was fully open, and there was free parking right at the hotel. We had a standard room with a shower, bathtub, TV, and a bed with two separate mattresses, which was fine. I really liked the beach-style interior, and the highlight was the balcony facing the beach and sea. You can’t stay closer to the beach on Texel. The room and beds were absolutely clean, and there was shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, bath salt, body lotion, a hairdryer, and a wardrobe safe. Breakfast and dinner were fabulous, and the family-run feel made us welcome right away. The hotel advertised its Sauna and Spa area. I think you can still book beauty treatments and a massage, but the sauna facilities are out of order and probably won’t reopen, which should be mentioned. It didn’t matter much to us. The area is lively, with bars, restaurants, and De Koog Center within easy walking distance. Tip: the bike rental on the hotel website delivers bikes to the hotel and picks them up again.
