Via Suites

The facilities are nice, and the bar food was surprisingly fresh and delicious. Breakfast, though, wasn’t very good. I’ve had much better: it lacked freshly baked bread or baguette, and the cucumbers and tomatoes tasted bad. Maybe I just caught them at a bad time.

The room itself was great: spacious, comfortable, cleaned daily, and with an amazing view, much like the pictures on the Via website. The service, though, was horrendous. The room breakfast menu said takeaway was available from 7 to 10 on weekdays and 7 to 11 on weekends. I went down at 7:40, but the bar waitress told me in a very unpleasant way that it didn’t start until 8. Two days earlier, I’d also tried to get takeaway breakfast, and she was angry that I hadn’t told her before ordering because it needed to go in a plastic bag. Employees need to communicate orders clearly. Guests are what pay the salaries, and good service matters if you want positive feedback and people to come back. I won’t be returning.

The staff were fantastic, friendly, and really helpful, and the restaurant food was very good at good prices. There was plenty to do, with pool tables, table tennis, a pinball machine, and board games. The suites were clean and had just about everything we needed: a fridge, microwave, dishwasher, sink, and a nice couch bed. There was also a good-sized TV with channels in several languages, plus a great shower and bathroom. It’s less than a 10-minute walk to the train and close to the airport and Amsterdam. I’d highly recommend this place.

The counter staff were friendly and helpful, and gave us suggestions for getting around and handling the logistics nearby. The rooms were nicely decorated, though a bit dusty, possibly because the place had been inactive for a while. It’s near a school campus. The location may feel isolated if you have a lot of luggage or large bags, but the distance is reasonable if you’re traveling light.
