Right in the middle of the old town, the location is convenient. The interior design is amazing, and the staff were helpful and courteous. Our bedroom was small but comfortable, though larger rooms are available at a higher price. The bathroom was well appointed. Dinner was amazing apart from the squid starter, which was too chewy. We mentioned it and expected it to be taken off the bill, but it wasn’t a major issue. The surf and turf, salmon, and chicken sate were great. Breakfast was served at the table with a reasonable selection, though we weren’t offered any options. They were also very helpful when we needed to find parking.

The breakfast was excellent, and the staff were friendly. The hotel is right in the heart of beautiful Edam, with striking classical decor and some baroque touches, plus a great collection of religious sculptures. Our room was small but practical, and decorated in the same style. We’d requested a double but were given a twin, so pay close attention to that when booking. The bathroom lighting could use improvement.

The food was mediocre. Our bedrooms were very dim and cold, and the hallways were freezing. At night they lock the upstairs door. We had no idea, and then had no way to get out.

The food was phenomenal, but service was fairly slow, even with more waiters than you’d expect.

We were soaked and exhausted, with our luggage, after another nearby hotel badly let us down. The two young men at reception welcomed us warmly and offered a choice of rooms, with breakfast included. The hotel was beautiful and really interesting, and we had a lovely stay. I’d definitely recommend it to others.
