The crossroad outside made things a little noisy, and the walls are thin enough that you can hear the neighbor. Still, for a place about ten minutes from the seaside, it was worth it.

We were back from a King's Day weekend in Egmond, and Mare Liberum is handy for both the center and the beach, with either an easy walk. The old building has plenty of charm, but noise carries so much that another guest moving around or flushing at night can wake you right up. The room and bathroom were both tiny, and the stairs are very steep, though we already knew about that. Breakfast was okay. For more than €100 for a double room, I expected better value. It was fine for a weekend, but I don't think I'd return.

The people here made us feel well looked after, especially the manager on site, who's so welcoming and clearly cares about each guest. The family-run feel really comes through, and the service and breakfast were both great. We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Mare Liberum. The rooms are on the small side, but they're clean and tidy, and small but perfectly formed.

Clean rooms and a decent breakfast. Space is tight throughout, and getting upstairs means climbing two steep flights. The lack of an elevator should be made clearer. It was okay for just one night.
