I had a relaxing break with a lovely view from the terrace across the Geuldal. The staff were welcoming and quick. It's a wonderful hotel in a beautiful spot, with walking and cycling routes in every direction. Highly recommended!

We were camping nearby, so didn't stay overnight, but had a great meal at the restaurant. The main room was full, and they warmly seated us in the next room, which was cosy and spacious. The rural decor felt typically Dutch. We weren't dressed up and hadn't booked, but were welcomed all the same. The homemade lemonade and local white beer were so refreshing, and the sea bream (dorade) and portobello dishes were delicious. A real recommendation for anyone in the area.

Herberg de Smidse sits in the Geul Valley, with sweeping views of the Limburg hills, and makes a great base for walks or bike rides. You could also just gaze at the green hills until your mind quiets down. The old blacksmith's forge has rustic charm, with cosy rooms full of nostalgia. There's no TV or minibar, which is hardly a problem, and the restaurant serves straightforward food made with local ingredients. Guests give the location a near-perfect 9.8/10.

A lovely place to pause on a long hike or bike ride. I haven't stayed overnight, but I've had pie and brunch here. The terrace and service are wonderful. It gets really crowded whenever the sun is out, which is understandable.

We weren't hotel guests. The terrace has a great view of the surroundings, though there's not enough shade. The staff weren't very attentive, and the food was okay, maybe a little pricey for what you get. The setting is unique.
