Fletcher Wellness-Hotel Trivium

We were assigned this hotel for the Rood Wit soccer tournament and couldn’t choose our own place to stay. If we’d been booking ourselves, we wouldn’t have picked it. It was described as a 4-star property, but our stay fell far short of that. The room smelled strongly of mold, and the carpet looked dirty and had a bad odor. Towels were thin, worn, and stale-smelling. There was only hand soap, no shampoo or body wash. The lumpy pillows made it hard to sleep well. The room was stuffy during an extremely hot week, with temperatures near 40°C (104°F). The windows wouldn’t open all the way. There was no in-room refrigerator for drinks or anything else that needed to stay cool unless we paid extra. Meals were another big letdown. Dinner felt like something to get through, and there wasn’t much fresh fruit, which often looked overripe. The fish and chicken were repeatedly dry, overcooked, and bland. As parents traveling with young athletes, we expected better food and nutrition. Staff didn’t make things much better. They were often unhelpful and sometimes seemed dismissive. We asked for ice regularly in the heat and got annoyance instead of help. Making guests comfortable in difficult conditions should be part of hospitality, but we largely didn’t experience that. We also weren’t given clear pricing for laundry. We were told it was €14.50 per bag, then later found out there were additional charges per item. What we thought would cost €14.50 ended up as an €86 bill. Fees should be explained clearly. Cleanliness, comfort, service, and value all fell below even basic expectations. We understand many people may stay here for organized events, but hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes significant improvements for future guests.
