We were left in a very difficult position because the hotel’s key system was so unreliable. When we asked for a key card, we were told that room access was only possible through email. One night, we got back from a birthday celebration at 11:00 p.m. and couldn’t get in. Another guest was locked out at the same time, and there was no backup way in or emergency help available. After trying for a long time without success, we had to give up and drive to another hotel for the night. We didn’t have access to essential things, including heart medication. The next day, we asked to check out and move to the other hotel because of what had happened. The owner didn’t apologize. We spent over an hour arguing on the phone before our concerns were even acknowledged. This was simply unacceptable. Guests shouldn’t be stranded outside at night without help. At the very least, management should show concern and offer a sincere apology when such a serious service failure affects guests.

I’ve stayed here several times over the years for work. The staff are lovely and helpful, and it’s clean, but the rooms feel a little dated and tired. For what you get, it’s overpriced. The location is perfect for the town centre shops, bars, and restaurants, and only a few minutes’ walk from the train station. Breakfast is self-service, with a fairly good continental selection.
