The open garden is beautiful for dining when it’s warmer, and the hotel is right in the heart of Gouda. I travel solo often, and this is the greatest hotel I’ve stayed in. It’s hard to find somewhere this nice in Gouda or Rotterdam that isn’t a hostel or has that kind of vibe. Luxurious hotels are rare here, so this place is a real gem. Everything, down to the finest detail, feels luxurious, and the upgraded rooms don’t cost that much more. It’s a loft! The service is impeccable: everyone was so kind and helpful. As an American, good customer service often feels like a lost art to me, but they went above and beyond here. I can’t recommend it enough. It’s amazing.

The breakfast menu sounded promising, but the food itself was a little disappointing and didn’t quite match it. We still enjoyed the meal, and the room where it was served was spectacular. It just wasn’t at the same high level as the rest of the place. The hotel is charming, with gorgeous, cosy, comfortable rooms. Staff were great, the location was perfect, and everything was impeccably clean. That breakfast is the only reason I’d give it a 9 rather than a 10.

Room 3 had a lovely little terrace at the back, great for sitting in the morning sun. The room also had a coffee machine and kettle, and the shower was really nice. They provided very high-quality products. We both slept really well in the super-comfortable bed. The hotel is in a quieter part of Gouda, but the main square is only about a two-minute walk if you cut past the cathedral. The complimentary syrup waffles at check-in were a lovely touch. Beautiful hotel.

We had some lovely bike rides in the area. The hotel is in a beautiful historic building on a picturesque, quiet street in Gouda. We arrived on Monday, when the restaurant and cafe were closed, and were able to check in super early. They use WhatsApp for pre-check-in and responded to our special request. Monday and Tuesday are quiet days to visit town, as many restaurants are closed. Like many historic buildings in Holland, the hotel has lots of steep stairs, so mention any mobility issues when choosing a room.

The staff made our short stay feel personal. They were all lovely, keen to help, and had local suggestions to share. We spent an afternoon in a café, wandered the quieter streets and canals, and had a really nice weekend. Gouda is tiny and cute, even with all the cheese tourism; it does make you wish fewer people had discovered it. The hotel is tucked beside one of the town's prettiest canals, near the church, museum, and a couple of leafy parks. It's just off the main square but stayed very quiet. Our room was comfortable and romantic, with a nice layout and good amenities. For the price, it was outstanding value.
