Asgard Hotel

We had a spacious room and a large terrace with a table and chairs, where we enjoyed coffee while looking out over the park. The staff were warm and helpful, and the location was handy for the train station. Breakfast was a standard cold selection.

We’re cycling from Norwich (UK) to Prague, and the stay here has been outstanding. They thought through all the arrangements, including keeping our bikes for three days while we’re away. The rooms and balcony are at a four-star level by international standards. Stan, the cheerful receptionist who seems to help with everything, and Andreas, the owner, looked after us from beginning to end. We arrived late, after reception had closed, but they were reachable, left all the information in an envelope, and had everything perfectly prepared.

The hotel has lots of sustainable building and design features, so it’s a good fit for environmentally conscious travelers. Getting around is easy on foot or by bike, with the station, Museum, market Square, restaurants, shops, and other main spots close by. Breakfast is organic and locally sourced, with traditional dutch food alongside croissants and tropical fruit.

The rooms are spacious, and the staff are friendly. Breakfast was excellent, with local products, including Groningen cakebread from the famous bakery Knol. The hotel is in a monumental building near the groote markt, the museum, and the station. A very good option if you’re staying in Groningen.
