Hotel Schimmelpenninck Huys

We loved how friendly and welcoming the staff were. The breakfast buffet had plenty to choose from and was delicious, and our room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is beautiful, with lovely decor throughout and a central location. Thank you xx

The breakfast was about 22€ pP and fairly small. The fresh bread was lovely, though the eggs had little taste and I would have liked more variety. Our table by the fireplace was super cozy. The bar is great, and the interesting interior is worth seeing. We stayed in room 04, a huge, comfortable suite with a bubble bathtub, but the pillows on the other side were so thick I couldn’t rest my head on them. There are no elevators, and the stairs are steep. Still, the hotel is right in the city, with a supermarket nearby, comfortable mattresses and friendly staff. I’d recommend it :)

The shared spaces are what made the strongest impression: the entrance, bar, outdoor area and restaurant all looked beautiful and distinctive. The decorations and dark lighting gave it a cozy, almost film set feel. Reception staff were kind, and both online check-in and checkout were easy. Breakfast was nice too, with fresh breads and buns, including seeded and sweet options, plus cheese, sliced meats, jams, vegetables, fruit, egg, bacon, juices, infused water, yoghurt and different granolas. Room 9, our deluxe room, didn’t live up to the pictures. It was plain white with a bright stone floor and no decoration, unlike the lovely, cozy rooms shown online. Two of the three windows wouldn’t open. The bathroom window especially mattered, since it got very steamy after a bath or shower. I also noticed some spots on the walls and wood where moisture had led to mold. The bathtub drained very slowly, as if the pipe were nearly clogged, and there was dust on the heater beside it. The small blue pillows on the bed had dried dirty spots. We had just one large and one small standard towel per person, with no bathrobes. The large towel wasn’t a sauna towel. I expected more from a deluxe room that costs quite a bit more than the standard rooms, which looked prettier and more comfortable in the photos. I’d stay again, but wouldn’t book the deluxe room. Charging extra should come with the same standards for hygiene and decor, beyond just a bigger bathtub.

The breakfast spread was good, and the staff there were quick and glad to help. We also liked the bathroom setup, with both a shower and a bath. Our room felt nice and cozy, and the staff throughout the hotel were friendly and easy to talk to. It’s right in the center, within walking distance of everything we wanted to see, including the station. Despite being in the middle of the city, our room was quiet. The lobby and dining areas had a pleasant, classic feel. The courtyard looked like a lovely place to sit, but the weather didn’t work out for us. The steep staircase in our building was the only small drawback. It may not be the same in every part of the hotel, and it’s not a big deal unless you have heavy bags or difficulty with stairs. We really enjoyed our stay. It’s the place to stay in Grunn. Moi!
