The Market Hotel Groningen

Breakfast was a real highlight, with lots of choice and good quality. I found myself going back “just to check if you missed anything.” Our top-floor room was spacious and comfortable, with a lovely bathroom and a balcony that made the stay feel more special. There was enough room to move around without suitcase gymnastics, which shouldn’t feel like a luxury, but somehow often does. The Market Hotel in Groningen was a very pleasant surprise. It was a great experience, with a comfortable room, nice details, excellent breakfast, and a very good location. A hotel that delivers what you hoped for, suspiciously rare but very welcome. Hotel surprises can also mean mystery stains, a “city view” of a wall, or a bathroom fan that sounds like a helicopter, so this was a welcome one.

The staff were kind and helpful, and breakfast was tasty and filling. The hotel’s in an easy spot for getting to many things, and the rooms are spacious and clean. I loved the bath.

The nicer rooms facing the main square, with a bathtub, are superb. I love this hotel, its location, and the rooms overlooking the plaza. I definitely disliked the dark twin room with no city view, looking onto the side building, and wouldn’t make the mistake of booking it again. Breakfast is one of my favorites, and I’m glad the restaurant has been restored to its original beauty. I’ve stayed here multiple times, though I wish reception had recognized me with a “welcome back” and hadn’t made me fill in all my information again.

We booked because the room selection listed a Grootemarkt view room, hoping to watch the Ferris wheel and fireworks on New Year's Eve. Instead, our room looked out at the back. When we asked, they said a view wasn’t guaranteed. So why was a view room listed, and why did we pay the same price as people who booked one? It was a huge disappointment, and they offered no compensation. Customer satisfaction was very poor. I’m thinking I won’t come back and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
