The location was easy to reach and had plenty of parking, check-in was simple, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I really liked the gin they make at the bar and ended up buying two bottles. Still, given the four-star rating and Handwritten Collection name, the stay fell short of what I expected, even allowing for the off season. There were exposed nails above the bed and in the bathroom. With the room-cleaning sign out, staff changed the towels and emptied the bin, and they spread the duvet but didn't put the pillows back. I understand the sustainability angle, but a quick vacuum wouldn't take much effort, and they didn't even replace the used mug. A thick layer of dust on the tea and coffee box was disgusting.
The dinner varied a lot: some courses were very good, while others had very little taste. The room was too warm and there was no way to adjust the temperature. There weren't enough hooks for clothes, and the bathroom was too dark, with nowhere to hang towels or clothing.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and it was a pleasant day. The air conditioning barely cooled the room, which got very warm, so I would have rated the stay higher if it had worked better. If you go on a warm day, I'd bring your own fan like we did.
The spa is farther away, and they should tell guests that beforehand. The rooms were nice and clean, the staff very friendly, and breakfast was top-notch. The restaurant was good too, but it was too expensive and the portions were too small. Eating out is a better choice.
Our Garden Suite was spacious, quiet, and spotless, with high ceilings, modern furnishings, and a peaceful garden view. We were upgraded because of our Accor Gold status, and the comfortable bed and calm natural setting made it a relaxing weekend. There are small paths, wooded areas, and a little river nearby, while the beach and Burgh-Haamstede, with its cafés, bakery, and cycling routes, are close too. The design was beautiful, and the heated mirror and excellent shower pressure were nice touches once everything was working. There were a couple of issues at first: no toiletries in the immaculate room, and no hot water on the first night because of an external boiler problem. The team responded quickly, brought bathrobes, and let us shower in another suite. Service was otherwise limited. We had to ask for the room to be cleaned, and it was done later that day. The restaurant on site was good, though service was a bit slow. They waived the first night's charge and parking to make up for the hot water, which felt fair and was appreciated. Guests can use the spa at the nearby main hotel. We didn't go because it was busy, but it's a nice extra. Boutique Hotel Ter Zand is a stylish, modern and quiet place for a relaxing getaway not far from Belgium. Despite the small service hiccups, it felt like a hidden gem in Zeeland. I also rated the restaurant “Le Poirier” if you're interested in a detailed review. Beautiful design, a roomy suite, and a peaceful setting, with a few service problems handled efficiently.
