As Canadian Muslim tourists visiting the town, we felt very unwelcome at the coffee shop by the lake. The woman serving us treated us differently from other customers, didn’t greet us, and wouldn’t let us sit at the table we’d chosen. She spoke rudely to us, then got angry when we asked her to explain the drink ingredients in English and went through the menu disrespectfully. It was a terrible experience, and her behavior felt racist.

The terrace and restaurant location are lovely, and the prices aren’t too high. The food was just passable, nothing special but not bad either, so the cost more or less balanced that out. The service was awful. Dirty plates sat on our table for 25 minutes, nobody came to take a drink order, and nearly an hour passed between the starter and main course. I won’t be back.

We stopped for wine and a snack at this nice restaurant on the Boulevard of Harderwijk. The windscreens make it pleasant even when it’s breezy. The olives came in a much bigger portion than I expected, not a small serving at all!

The area is beautiful, and the hotel is conveniently placed for exploring the parks and town on foot or by bicycle rented there. Our room was clean, comfortable, and nicely furnished, with a beautiful lake view, especially at sunset. The hotel and restaurant staff were friendly and gave excellent service, and the food was good too.
