The meal was beautifully presented and full of flavor. We had a creative amuse with prawns and crispy bites, then beef tartare decorated with edible flowers, and the bread with herb butter was a lovely touch. Service was attentive in a relaxed but sophisticated setting, with stylish details like the quirky bird lamp. Kasteel De Essenburgh is a wonderful spot to unwind, whether for dinner, drinks, or a walk in the gardens. The castle and its surroundings are stunning, with red shutters, a grand façade, and a moat bridge that feels straight out of a fairytale. Inside, classic grandeur meets modern elegance, with velvet bar stools, golden accents, and cozy corners. Highly recommended for a romantic dinner or an elegant outing.

We hiked outdoors and enjoyed being surrounded by nature. For us it was the perfect place, and the price was low compared with other options in the area, so we’ll return. We stayed in the castle itself, not the new building. The inside is even prettier than the outside. The shower and toilet weren’t in our room because adding them would have damaged the castle’s original character and wasn’t allowed. That didn’t bother us at all, since we’d rather sleep in an authentic room. :-)

The castle and gardens are beautiful, but the hotel was a different story. Room quality seems to depend on luck, and the rooms don’t look like the ones shown on the site. We were unlucky with no Wi-Fi in our room, and the Wi-Fi elsewhere in the hotel was pretty poor too. Our room in the Hoeve was just like a standard hotel room.

The restaurant was great, and the surroundings are fantastic. The rooms are nothing special.

Coffee and cake were served with the sort of elegance that suits a castle, and the service was lovely. The place is beautiful and charming. I’d love to return for supper and see what the chef has to offer. The menu looks promising.
