The cappuccino was okay, though a little expensive, and the castle itself is very nice. The bar service, unfortunately, wasn't good. We politely asked if the music could be turned down, but she didn't respond very warmly. Then we waited 45 minutes for the bill, and the card machine didn't work.

A day before we were due to leave, we got very sick. We asked the hotel to keep the money and let us move the dates to low season, in whatever room they wanted to give us. They showed no flexibility or kindness on the phone and had no interest in helping. We lost both the money and the stay. I'm sure I'll never book VdV again. Brands that treat customers like this shouldn't be in hospitality.

The breakfast setup and service were lovely, and our room on the second floor was bright, with the expected amenities, a good-sized bathroom, and excellent bedding. We stayed for three days and two nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and were warmly welcomed with a handwritten congratulations note. Staff handled everything from check-in to check-out professionally and courteously. We had dinner one night in the fine dining room, which was a real gourmet experience, then relaxed in the terrace garden the next evening. Two housekeeping issues: we don't understand why bathrobes can't be taken to the hotel spa and pool, and the room AC didn't work well.

The room was fine and the nature was nice, but double or even triple check your dinner reservation. I booked dinner online and waited for confirmation before booking a room. After calling, I was told the reservation was made, and a confirmation email arrived afterward, so I booked the room too. At check-in, reception said there was no dinner reservation. I showed the email, and they seemed confused. They said it had been cancelled but didn't know whether we or they had cancelled it. They checked and then told us it was indeed cancelled, and they couldn't arrange a table because they were fully booked. They offered a table at another hotel restaurant, but I wanted dinner at the castle, which was why I'd booked a room there. If I wanted to eat at the other hotel, I would've booked that one.
