I went to Cafe de Brabander with my family. When I asked the waitress about a dish, she didn’t know the answer, but she was nice about it and checked with the cook. She still wasn’t sure what it was, so I decided to ask him myself since it was an open kitchen and I wanted to save her the trouble. I asked if he could recommend anything. He looked at me strangely and said he never recommends dishes. Then he complained that answering questions like that for every customer would keep him too busy, and seemed irritated. I apologized for being interested in his food. He told me to just pick something, eat it, and not make a fuss. I sat back down for a minute, then decided not to eat there. It was a very strange encounter with a troubled man.

We stayed one night. The hotel has basic, simple rooms, and ours was clean, but the shower was broken. Breakfast was simple too, with no hot English-style food.
