GuestHouse Hotel Kaatsheuvel

We slept really well both nights, and the place was quiet by bedtime. The location is hard to beat for Efteling: about a ten-minute walk on pleasant residential streets, crossing one main road. Our bunkhouse room had a big double bunk with extra beds underneath, which my son loved, and the mattresses were comfortable. I liked the Scandinavian design details, and the whole guesthouse was immaculate. Breakfast was good, though the later sitting on our second morning got crowded and replenishment took longer. The staff stayed friendly and handled it well. It’s especially suited to families. We did see some children running up and down the hall and tossing lobby cushions onto the floor, so it may be less relaxing if you’re travelling without kids.

The cocktails were delicious, and we really liked the food. It’s also very good value near Efteling, with lovely staff and a great setup for kids.

There was room for all five of us to sleep together, and we loved being so close to Efteling, with a supermarket right below the hotel. It was very convenient, and we’d recommend staying here. We were let down by the restaurant, though: in our opinion the meal was underwhelming for the price.

The best thing is the location. The rooms were just okay, nothing special, and ours had a faint sewage-like smell. Breakfast was poor quality, and the dining area felt like a jungle, with far too many people. Later, after having cocktails upstairs, our group of four with a young child came down at 9:25 and were bluntly told the kitchen was closed, with no other options. The staff seemed not to care and were quite rude. We didn’t get any Efteling magic there. Fortunately, a ten-minute walk took us to a nice restaurant.
