Post-Plaza Hotel & Grand Café

The lobby and restaurant had a great atmosphere, and the restaurant staff were attentive. Leeuwarden itself is charming and quiet. The hotel rooms were another story: I’ve never slept worse than during our three nights at post plaza. Jet lag may have played a part, but the rooms definitely weren’t soundproof. Ours was on the ground floor facing a small alley, where there was loud laughter, screaming, and music late at night and all day. I’m early in my pregnancy and had hoped to rest, but felt exhausted throughout the trip and couldn’t enjoy myself. We could also hear people in neighboring rooms and the beeps when others opened their hotel doors. If you need sleep, don’t stay here. The WiFi was also unreliable and frustrating when I was tired and trying to work. We were here for my husband’s work trip.

The rooms were spacious, the decor was fantastic, and everyone at the hotel was lovely. We had dinner at the Grand Cafe after a busy travel day, and it was the best meal of our trip, even compared with a Michelin-starred restaurant in Rotterdam. The restaurant staff were friendly and the three-course meal was fantastic. We had the best stay at Post-Plaza, and the location was great. Highly recommend.

The staff are an unusual mix of highly professional and genuinely friendly, and the service is impeccable. I’ve stayed at The Post Plaza for years whenever I’m in town. Having travelled for years, lived in London, and worked at 5/7 star hotels, I can say the hotel stands out across the board. It’s perfectly located, and quality shows in every detail. The best hotel in the north of the Netherlands, highly recommended.

Breakfast was the highlight for me. The hotel is lovely, the staff are great, and it’s right in the center of Leeuwarden.
