Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant De Scheperskamp

The location is a real plus for walking around the beautiful region, and active people should find plenty to do, even if Lochem itself is quiet. The hotel has decent facilities, including a pool and the option to book private sauna time. The restaurant looks nice, but the breakfast was uninspiring, if not necessarily poor quality. Dinner choices were so limited and unappealing that I didn't eat there. The rooms, though, were frankly terrible. Everything felt old, worn, and dirty. The carpets, chairs, and curtains were stained and discolored, and the rooms were dusty and smelled like a retirement home. The bathroom especially had that feel. The hotel itself gives much the same impression, hardly an inspiring getaway. The staff didn't seem to take their jobs seriously, and appeared very aware of how run-down the place was. It's understandable that a poor hotel may not attract motivated employees. My advice to younger visitors is to skip it. It feels like a retirement home, and the people who stay here reflect that.

The restaurant is nice, as is the billiard table. Rooms are basic, but I liked having a little balcony and seating area. Ours was right above the pool, which may have encouraged us to swim every morning.

It's still well placed for walking and cycling, but the hotel has gone downhill since Fletcher took it over. I used to give it five stars. It really needs renovation, though perhaps things will be better next year.

A quiet, relaxing hotel, and I'd definitely come back. The setting is beautiful, with forests nearby and a garden full of trees and birds. There's sunshine all around. Staff are very friendly, and the lobby and bar look lovely. The pool is small but clean, and you can book the sauna for private use for a very small fee.
