Hotel de la Bourse

I asked to move rooms because of the hot weather and being right under the roof. The receptionist wasn't there yet, but the person handling breakfast got in touch with her colleagues. Within half an hour, I had a different room. Really nice staff!

The hotel is very central, and although the nights were lively I still managed to sleep well. I had a one-person room for the weekend. It was a fine size and looked modernized, with my own bathroom, shower and toilet. I took off a star because the room was ice cold when I entered, and there was a funky smell along the hallway to my room. Staying at the hotel gets you 15% at their restaurant downstairs.

I've eaten at the restaurant of the hotel De la Bourse a couple of times. The food is good and mostly draws on French cuisine. Yesterday's steak was tasty and tender, though sometimes there's a bit too long to wait between courses.

The brasserie staff were excellent, very polite and ready to help with questions or needs, including keeping our luggage after checkout. Rooms are basic but fine for a short stay, right in the heart of Maastricht. They're above a brasserie: check-in is at its counter, and an elevator connects it to the rooms. There's a bit of kitchen smell in the corridors, though not in the rooms. Instead of keys, you get an email link to lock and unlock your room. That's handy if you're comfortable with tech and your phone battery lasts through the night, but could be an issue if it dies. The soundproofing is somewhat problematic for light sleepers. The mattress is comfortably soft, the bathroom fairly clean, with hair, body and hand soap, plus a couple of cupboards and shelves for basic storage. The windows look straight onto the piazza of Maastricht and let in plenty of light and air. I'd recommend it for a basic stay.
