Trash Deluxe

Our room was spacious, nicely furnished, and had a great walk-in shower. There's a coffee machine in the room for a morning cup before heading out. We were a few minutes' walk from Sphinx parking (€16 euros for 24 hours), and about five minutes from Maastricht's main square. The hotel offers breakfast to eat in your room, but we went to the Spa opposite instead for coffee, juice, and plenty of fresh pastries. A great little boutique hotel.

A lovely boutique hotel, right in the heart of Maastricht. The rooms are large and clean, with unique decor and a really comfortable bed. Public parking is close by, and the center is an easy walk away. Great for a business trip or a romantic getaway.

The location is handy, but sleeping here was impossible with the constant traffic noise. There was no air conditioning or sound-insulating glass, and the room sits directly above a bus stop on the main road into Maastricht center. No matter what the owners say about the location or the room decor, neither makes up for that. If the rooms can't be sound-insulated and ventilated properly, maybe this shouldn't be a hotel. The room was decorated nicely, but that was about the only positive. I don't book a hotel just to look at green beer bottels attached to a log on the ceiling. I need to sleep quietly and comfortably, and that didn't happen at Trash. Finding earplugs as the first thing in a room that wasn't cheap was a bad sign. If earplugs are provided, they should at least be silicone, not cheap plastic Trash. The reception is unavailable from 13:30 because, as the owners explained by text, they're a very small boutique hotel. After that you're on your own. Self-check-in was easy, though anyone used to youth hostel procedures will be fine. For 50 Euros, maybe, but not 130 Euro with breakfast excluded. At best, this is a somewhat upmarket, very noisy youth hostel in a terrible spot above a bus stop on the main road. Spend the money on air conditioning and double-glazed windows, like other hotels do. And to answer the owner's reply to my review this morning, it was an honest review, not a nasty one. The traffic noise kept me from sleeping, full stop.

The owners were really friendly and helpful, and all the rooms have their own theme. The place has a cool feel to it, with great rooms and fantastic service. It's only a four-minute walk to the old town and city center, and parking is a short walk away. Looking forward to coming back.
