Van der Valk Hotel Maastricht

We booked a standard family room for one night on 18th Nov, paying more than 500 EUR because a conference had driven up demand in the city. The room was clean overall, but the bathroom bin still had the previous guest’s rubbish, and the kettle was visibly dirty with coffee residue in the spout. The AC didn’t keep the room warm, and it was very cold at night. The hotel did give us an extra quilt. Breakfast cost extra, but both the quality and quantity were good. Still, it wasn’t value for the money we paid.

After working a 17h shift as Head Judge for HYROX in Maastricht last weekend, I asked reception if they could warm some small cups of food. The receptionist agreed, plated everything beautifully and brought it on a tray. Such a kind gesture after a long day. That morning I’d also told another colleague there were mistakes in my breakfast box. He checked, saw it was still wrong and noted that it needed to be fixed for 6am. To my surprise, the next morning the box was not only corrected, it was better than I could have prepared myself, with extra touches and the sweetest note wishing me an amazing day and saying “Bismillah!” That thoughtfulness made my morning, gave me energy to push through on little sleep, and left me so grateful. The kids loved the bunk bed in the family room, and breakfast was superb. Room service was perfect too: I ordered through their app and everything for four people arrived within 20 minutes. Darius was a very friendly and helpful staff member. Great stay, location and staff, and the swimming and gym were great.

A cozy atmosphere and comfortable room made this an unforgettable stay. The receptionists were warm and friendly.
