Hotel Courage Waalkade

The lady serving breakfast was friendly, and breakfast itself was nice. The room felt dated and a bit grubby, so if a nice hotel room matters to you, this probably isn't the place.

We spent two nights here and were really happy with the stay. Both rooms were clean and had great views. Ours had a broken AC, but they called to offer us another room without us even asking. They also rang as soon as a room was ready, well before check-in time. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The location is spot on, with De Bastei right next door, which is absolutely amazing. It's central, but still quiet enough for relaxed evenings and calm mornings before heading out to explore Nijmegen. It's not the fanciest hotel, but it suited us perfectly. Some of the reviews here don't match what we experienced. We'd recommend it as a base for exploring the city.

Breakfast gets 5/5 from me, there was a wide choice of everything. We checked in after 18:00 using a code, which was very convenient, and the big window looked out over the river. The bed was comfortable. The room started out cold, but the electric heater got it to a good temperature. A few things could be better: we got just one large towel each, no small towels, and there was shower gel but no shampoo. Some dirt was visible on the lamps, and the walls at the back entrance were very dirty.

Breakfast was good, and I found the bicycle museum very interesting. It's only a few minutes' walk from the centre, with a nice bar across the road under the bridge. The building and rooms feel a bit old-school, and the shower in my room was cramped, but otherwise it was okay.
