Van Der Valk Hotel Den Haag Nootdorp

We had dinner there on Saturday after booking at reception. There was a good range of food, though service slowed down when the restaurant got busy, which was understandable. The drinks, snacks and toys near reception were handy, and the themed room was a real treat for our 7-year-old daughter. It rained throughout our stay, so having that extra fun was great for all of us. We really enjoyed our time at this Van der Valk hotel, and it's our first choice when we're staying in The Hague. We didn't use the pool or wellness services.

I checked out on 20 December 2025 at around 1300, then realized I'd accidentally left my gold necklace on the bed in the room. It weighs about 100 grams and has a large gold anchor attached, with some diamonds missing on both sides. It means a lot to me personally as well as financially. I reported the necklace through the iLost system, including photos and details of the room, so its appearance can be checked. I also met the cleaning staff on the day I left and could recognize her if needed. The manager later said that one employee had cleaned all the rooms that day. I would be willing to meet if that might help clarify what happened. I called the hotel that day and asked staff to check the room, but nobody called me back. I sent several emails and got no response. A few days later, I went in person and asked to inspect the room myself, offering to pay for it again, but the manager refused. I kept following up by email and even contacted the IT support desk, but still received no information about the missing necklace. I don't accuse any staff member of deliberately taking it. I left it there by mistake, and I accept responsibility for that. But I do hold the hotel responsible for handling items found in guest rooms and for the lack of response to my complaints. If my concerns had been taken seriously sooner, staff could have been questioned and an investigation started earlier. A gold chain of around 100 grams seems hard to miss during routine cleaning, given its size, weight, visibility and the sound its parts make when they touch. Staff might at first have thought it was a tip, but it was left behind by accident. It should have been recognized, secured and returned to its owner through the usual lost-and-found process. I trusted the Van der Valk name and its reputation for professionalism and care, so this has left me seriously disappointed and wondering about lost-and-found procedures and internal communication. I still hope the necklace will be found and returned. I'd also appreciate information about any compensation or next steps the hotel is prepared to consider. The hotel itself seemed good quality apart from this incident, and I hope the matter can be handled fairly and transparently. Thank you for your attention. I look forward to hearing back.

The room was huge, but the details matter. I couldn't get in because the door batteries had run out, and the coffee machine clearly needs attention.

We spent a week there and booked another week for later this summer straight away. We might even fit in a quick visit before then. There was plenty of free parking, the motorway was only seconds away, and the prices were sensible. The hotel is very well run, with well-trained staff who were keen to make our stay enjoyable. When I asked for one small item, a cleaner actually ran all the way down the long corridor to our room. That was impressive, and we're confident it'll be good again.
