We spent three days here, and it was a decent stay, especially if you’re after a short break and don’t mind older features. The forest around the hotel made it easy to switch off. Parking was ample, and getting there was fairly straightforward despite the location. Staff were friendly and professional. The pool was good for a quick workout or a cool down after the sauna. We didn’t try the gym. Breakfast was good value, and the restaurant food had real flavor and was clearly a cut above a basic eethuis. Dinner for two, with a main, dessert, and drinks, came to about €65. A little expensive without a starter, but acceptable. Our Luxury Room was clean and spacious, with a nice balcony option. The furniture felt like it belonged to a few years ago. There’s no Smart TV, so we couldn’t cast YouTube or Netflix, which felt a shame in 2025. Heating came from an old style radiator without thermostat control, and the room felt a bit chilly at night.

The hotel is in a perfect location, and the room was clean and okay, but the service really let us down. Staff ignored the “Do Not Disturb” sign, and the internet was so poor that working there was impossible. The restaurant was the worst part of our stay. The portions were tiny, and the service was awful. I don’t speak Dutch, and the waiter was rude while I tried to order. He didn’t ask if we wanted drinks either, so I had to get another waiter to take that order. Dinner was a disaster: my salmon had more bones than I’ve ever found in salmon, even though I’ve had it in lots of restaurants and cook it at home. For a dish priced as gourmet, I expected a much better standard. The dessert was just as disappointing, like finger food. I wouldn’t spend a penny there. We stay with the Fletcher chain every year and are friends of Fletcher, so leaving this visit feeling sad and with a bitter taste was especially disappointing.

The price might make some things easier to overlook, but the wet dog smell and awful beds mean I won’t choose this hotel again. When we came into the room, that smell hit us straight away. The twin beds pushed together left a gap, so we either had to sleep a metre apart or risk falling into the crack. The room and hotel felt dated, and the lift made noises like its cables might snap. Breakfast was only average, with tea and coffee cups not replenished and tiny bacon scraps instead of proper strips.

The room was cold, and the old radiators had been switched off, so they didn’t warm it enough. It was also outdated and dirty, with an enormous, horrible carpet stain. Check the pictures. I’d been asked whether I wanted a single bed or a large double, but they didn’t follow my preference. It wasn’t the experience I’d hoped for, and it certainly didn’t make me want to return to Fletcher Hotels. Update 31st of december 2025: After I posted my review, Fletcher Hotel Sparrenhorst apologized and handled the follow-up professionally and constructively. They offered a voucher for a free stay. Update 31st of January 2026: Even after two promises, the voucher never arrived. The service seems to be as terrible as the rooms.

The pool was surprisingly cold for winter, though the sauna was okay. What really made this stay bad was the room: it was very dirty, with big carpet stains and a strange smell. We stayed three nights, asked for cleaning, and the cleaning service did nothing. They didn’t even make the bed, which I’ve never seen at a four star hotel. The heating was turned up as much as possible but the poor insulation still left the room colder than we wanted. The sound insulation was even worse. We heard everything in the corridor and in the rooms next door. We stayed at another four star Fletcher hotel right after this one, and it was much, much better, so this definitely doesn’t seem normal.
