Bed & Breakfast Kroese

Really nice, and the breakfast was good.

The breakfast table looked inviting, but the food was a letdown. The croissants and other rolls were dry and stale, and the hard rolls had gone soft. The egg was cold, sticky, and tasted odd. I ate mine, though the other two of us tried theirs and threw them away. The next day I found out I had salmonella. We were asked to pay cash, and the response when we were told that came across as snarky. At 55 euros per person per night, plus tourist tax, the cost felt steep for what we got. The receipt couldn't be used to claim reimbursement either, which left me wondering whether everything was being handled properly. If running the B&B has become too much, they should stop using it. We had booked two rooms for one night. The rooms felt decades out of date, and the old mattresses were uncomfortable. There was an ancient kettle but no tea or coffee, with the TV seeming to be the only modern thing. The bathroom was shared, which was all right for the three of us, but would be awkward if guests from all three rooms needed it, since the toilet is in there too. We were asked when we'd like breakfast. Since it was Sunday, we assumed 10:00 a.m., but she snapped that we had to be there by 11:00 a.m. We settled on 9:00 a.m. During the night, the lady came upstairs to switch off the bathroom light, which felt very strange. In the morning, after a quick 'good morning,' she immediately pointed out that we'd be back very late.

The hostess was nice, and breakfast was good. The room quality and cleanliness were disappointing, though, including in the shared bathroom. I seriously doubt the bed linen had been changed before or after our stay. We were there overnight as a family with two children, and one of them had to sleep on a mattress on the floor.

For €55 you get a bed in a basic room, with breakfast included. Mrs. Kroese is very direct, which seems to come from having had bad experiences with guests. It's a shame things have reached that point. If you want somewhere luxurious, book somewhere else.
