The staff really do try and go out of their way to make guests comfortable, but their friendliness can’t cover up how dated and uncomfortable this place feels. The rooms are remarkably compact, and the thin walls make every little sound, even a snore, carry. You start wondering whether the person next door is a guest or a roommate. Hotel Café ’t Zonneke in Oosterhout feels a lot like an episode of the classic English sitcom Fawlty Towers. The furniture has lost its luster, the wallpaper needs replacing, and the whole interior seems stuck in another era. Even Basil Fawlty might wonder what happened to the maintenance. If you’re after a night of retro charm, thin walls, and unexpected comedy sounds, it might suit adventurers or nostalgia fans. For a good night’s sleep, maybe look elsewhere.
