Hotel Hotel-Restaurant ' t Wapen Van Ootmarsum

For a trip to Ootmarsum, this is a nice hotel. It's simple, but has what you need. The breakfast buffet and dinner are both well looked after. The owner handles everything himself and works incredibly hard. Much respect for that.

We ate well, and the restaurant was tidy and clean. Our room was also clean, with good beds, though it was small. The bathroom was tiny and very dated, quite a contrast with the ground floor. The owner did everything himself. At one point, we even kept an eye on the hotel and restaurant while he and his wife visited family in Brabant. The owner said he'd take €60.00 off our bill because the kitchen was closing, so we chose a nice restaurant for dinner. Ootmarsum has plenty of them. A week has passed and the promised amount still hasn't been transferred. We're very disappointed. If you make a promise, you should keep it. I hope this review gets published. The location is excellent, with the center of Ootmarsum just around the corner and lovely nature walks starting nearby. It's a very clean place with neat rooms, though they're simple and somewhat dated, and the bathroom is small. Breakfast was okay and dinner basic. The owner works tirelessly, with so few staff. For the price, the quality is good.

Ootmarsum is a lovely sight, with beautiful streets and shops. I've rarely seen such festive window displays. This hotel has a character all its own, and even after three days we were still noticing new ornaments in the restaurant and lobby, each one more beautiful than the last. It really felt like staying in the artists' village. We had the hotel to ourselves at first, an experience I'd only had once before, long ago, when the flight attendant and I were the only guests in the cabin on a flight from Schiphol to Maastricht. Even so, we had a delicious dinner for two and a full, perfect breakfast the next morning. More guests arrived the following afternoon. Our package meant we ate whatever was served for three days. I'd love that arrangement everywhere: delicious food, lots of variety, and a place that really gives vegetables special attention. The room was spacious enough, the beds were perfect, and there was finally enough closet space. The bathroom was small but had everything we needed. This hotel is nothing like an average one. I'd give it six stars if I could.
