The place was very clean, and the contact person was friendly, helpful and accommodating. Its quiet spot right by the forest, surrounded by nature, is a big plus if you want seclusion. Inside, the furnishings were less appealing. There was that slightly musty smell you get in older holiday rentals, and there weren't really enough plates and dishes. The entrance light also shone into the bedroom because its window couldn't be darkened, so a lot of light came in at night whenever the door wasn't fully closed. It's fine for a short overnight stay, but people expecting more comfort and amenities may find it lacking.

The host communication was poor. We booked through Airbnb and often waited two days for a reply, even before check-in. After we told her about the accommodation, she said we should leave. There was no understanding or willingness to compromise, so we checked out on the second day. At first, the musty smell in accommodation No. 20 seemed like it might just have been unused for a while. Then we looked more closely and found mold all over the shower, bathroom window and ceiling, the hallway dresser, and the washing machine in the storage room. The mattresses and bedding were filthy, and the blinds had millimeters of grime on them. We spent our first evening cleaning so we wouldn't feel sick. We'd never experienced anything like it, and I wouldn't advise anyone who cares about their health and sanity to spend even one night there.

The setting is beautiful, right in the forest between Otterlo and Harskamp, and just around the corner from the Hoge Veluwe.

A quiet, quaint place with a nice 50s feel.
