Bed and Breakfast De Smousenhoek

Top notch.

Everything from booking through departure was easy and straightforward, and there’s parking in the courtyard. The hosts are very friendly, breakfast is exceptionally good, and the restrooms are spotless. Rooms are small but cozy, with comfortable beds. Four stars because the showers are shared and aren’t in the rooms.

The hosts were so friendly, and I’d love to return and explore more of the area. My room was really comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was delicious, with plenty of variety. There’s also a little kitchen for making coffee or tea, or putting together a snack.

Breakfast was a real highlight: fresh rolls from the bakery in several varieties, cold cuts including sausage, cheese, ham, and bacon, plus either an omelet or a boiled egg. There was also yogurt with honey, fresh fruit, sweet spreads, and a drink of your choice. Coffee and tea are free in the house kitchen during the day, guests can use the kitchen to cook, and other drinks are for sale in the fridge. The family who owns the place are very welcoming, and you feel at home straight away. The rooms are lovingly furnished and well kept, and the whole house is very clean. There are two showers and two toilets for the five guest rooms, which was enough for us. Even when the house was full, we never had to wait. It’s in a fairly central spot in the small town, about a five-minute walk from the center. Outside there’s a garden lawn, chestnut trees, and a chicken coop.
